Biography

As Soprano

Regina Handoko is one of Indonesia’s most talked about sopranos in her generation with powerful stage presence and impressive high notes. She started learning music at Yayasan Pendidikan Musik (YPM) at the age 4. Continued by vocal lessons with several famous classical singers such as Catherine W. Leimena, Binu D. Sukaman, Joseph Kristanto Pantioso, etc.

In 2004, Regina had vocal guidance from Towako Sato Schollhorn in Freiburg, Germany.

In 2018, Regina achieved her Vocal Diploma in Music Performance from Trinity College London in Singapore with Distinction Score.

Regina has participated in a Vocal Masterclasses such as:

  • with Ms. Marianne Dellacasagrande from France – Debussy Festival 2012.
  • with Dame Gwyneth Jones at Royal College Music – London, September 2016.
  • with Profesor Patricia Rozario at Royal College Music – London, September 2016.
  • with Ms. Natalya Kumkova, one of vocal professors at Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, National University of Singapore, May and July 2018, Singapore
  • with Prof. Jonathan Kelly, vocal coach of the Met Opera and Assistant Conductor of the Met Opera, March 2020, New York, USA

In 2020, she released 2 singles and in May 2021, she released 1 new single. All singles available to be download on all digital platforms worldwide ( Spotify, iTunes, Amazon, Line Music, KKbox, Mymusic, TIDALmusic, friDay etc.)

She was also cast as the leading role in many classical operas:

  • As Cinderella – Opera “Cendrillon” (by Paulin Viardot) with Aning Katamsi; Binu Sukaman; Merrin Bydder; Dani Dumadi; Agus Yuwono, Mr. Ian Pierson as director – 2010
  • As “Hansel” – Opera “Hansel and Gretel” (by Engelbert Humperdincks) with Binu D. Sukaman dan Devi Fransisca at Usmar Ismail Hall – 2011
  • As “Fattima” (Abu Hassan’s wife) – Opera “Abu Hassan” (by Carl Maria von Webber) – 2012
  • As “The Witch” – Opera “Dido and Aeneas” at Berick Performance Hall, Singapore –2016

Regina held Solo concerts as Soprano/Soprano-Harpist:

  • 24 August 2019 – Solo Concert “Indonesia Bersatu” at Galeri Indonesia Kaya, Grand Indonesia, Kempinski, Jakarta
  • 20 May 2018 – solo concert   “Nana –Sebuah Perjalanan Musik Regina Handoko”
  • 28 May 2017 – Solo concert  “Hearts in Harmony Concert” at Usmar Ismail Hall.

Achievements

Regina Has won several achievements in International and National classical Vocal Competitions:

  • 3rd prize of London International Music Competition 2022 (July 2022), for vocal-profesional category
  • 2nd winner of New York Classical Music Awards International Competition 2020

As Harpist

She started learning harp in 2013 under the guidance of Heidi Awuy, and has been studying with Rama Widi since September 2015 and studying With Ms Gulnara Mashurova since September 2018.

Regina finished Grade 8 Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, London with excellence score in 2018, and achieved her Harp Diploma from Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, London in 2022.

Achievements

Although being a classical singer is her first passion in music, Regina is also a talented harpist and is the only soprano – harpist in Indonesia.

She has performed as a soloist harpist, soloist soprano – harpist, and as a member of various orchestras.

She performed with many famous orchestras in Indonesia, such as:
